Nouvelle estimation de la population sauvage durant le 3ème atelier technique!

Helpsimus est l’origine du 3ème atelier technique international pour la conservation du grand hapalémur grâce à ses partenaires : le Cotswold Wildlife Park et la SECAS !Un rendez-vous important pour la conservation de l’espèce qui n’avait pas eu lieu depuis 2011!

Le 3ème atelier a eu lieu du 5 au 7 août 2015 à Ranomafana, plus précisément à l’hôtel Centr’Est. Une trentaine de représentants d’Associations et d’ONGs ainsi que du Ministère de l’Environnement, de l’Ecologie, de la Mer et des Forêts (MEEMF) ont participé à cet atelier. Tous ont partagé leurs expériences et de nombreuses informations sur l’espèce ont ainsi pu être compilées. La population sauvage est aujourd’hui estimée à un millier d’individus (contre un peu plus de 400 en 2011) ! C’est 10 fois plus qu’en 2008 quand l’espèce est annoncée au bord de l’extinction! Un palier important pour toutes les organisations présentes qui n’aurait pas été possible sans leur dévouement pour la sauvegarde de cette espèce! Et Helpsimus est fière d’en faire partie!

L’atelier a également permis de mettre à jour la stratégie de conservation de l’espèce (dont de nouvelles prospections à réaliser) car même si les résultats sont encourageants, beaucoup reste à faire : les menaces sont toujours bien présentes et l’équilibre fragile!

L’atelier a été suivi par une visite du Parc National organisée par Madagascar National Parks.

The 3rd international workshop for the conservation of the greater bamboo lemur is an Helpsimus’ initiative, thanks to our partners: the Cotswold Wildlife Park and SECAS! A very important meeting for the conservation of the species which took place the last time in 2011!

The 3rd meeting took place from August 5 to 7 at Ranomafana in Centr’Est hotel. Thirty representatives from Associations and NGOs but also from the Ministery of Environment, Ecologie, Sea and Forests (MEEMF) attended this workshop. All shared their experiences and a lot of information on the species was then compiled. The wild population is now estimated to a thousand individuals (against just over 400 in 2011)! It is 10 times more than in 2008 when the species was announced on the brink of extinction! An important step for all these organizations that would not have been possible without their dedication to the preservation of this species! Helpsimus is proud to be part of it!

The workshop also enables us to update the conservation strategy for the species (including news prospections). Even if the results are encouraging, much remains to be done: the threats are always present and the balance is fragile!

The workshop was followed by a visit of the National Park organized by Madagascar National Parks.
